This post is all about the permission to BE whoever you are in each moment – no matter what that is. And the invitation to LET GO of any game tape review and inner swirl about who you are being in each moment.
I can think of countless times where I responded to a social interaction, experience, or person in a way that I wished I had handled differently. Maybe I was too…
…made a bad joke
You name it, I have been it at one time or another. Honestly, we all have. The funny thing is that experiencing these things is totally normal and totally human.
In the past, following these uncomfortable moments, I would swirl in my own rabbit hole of self-doubt, regret, shame, embarrassment, and many times self-hate. All in an attempt to control myself from doing it again. Yet without fail, I could never stop them from happening again and again and again. Not because there is anything wrong with me, but because I am human!
I no longer believe it is possible to alleviate or control the uncomfortable moments of life. Nor would I want to! Feeling these things is part of the gift of being human. And beating myself up or trying to stop myself from being human has proven to be a waste of time.
Today, when I feel awkward, I breath it in. I take the time to really live what it feels like for me to experience awkwardness. Or sadness. Or directness. And then I let it go with a clearer understanding of what it’s like to live life as a human.
Here’s to embracing the awkward so we can get back to living!
